Hi,

In order to make the new headunit sort the volume with the speed of the car I need to source a GALA / speed pulse.

I could tap into the ABS-L and ABS-R I guess, but apart from the engine bay I'm not sure where to get those from. The wiring diagrams talk about a C107 connector under the dash somewhere - but don't actually mention where it is!

Any suggestions (polite ones only please!)

I thought that was in the standard cabling because many if not all Ford radio's have the auto volume / speed facility.

After finding a site in Germany with the pin-outs for the 3 connectors on the back of the 5000 I've found that it is indeed included already - its the sole cable in the middle connector!

Result!

Thanks

Don't suppose you remember what colour the wire was?

Someone told me it was red and white! ALL the ISO plugs had been cut off my Bammer when I bought it and a old cheap and very nasty radio/cassette fitted.

I soldered in some new ISO connectors but could not get the speed adjustment on the volume to work. I now know why!

Thanks chaps, will have a look later in the week.

OK looked at this and could not find a purple (violet) wire. So spoke to someone in the know and if, like me, you find it is not there, then you can patch into wire no 7 on the instrument cluster plug. Apparently the colour can vary, but it is alway No 7 on the plug!

I have often wondered if this feature of the radio actually works. I have set mine to the maximum + figure and to be honest I cannot tell any difference whatever figure it is set to.

I thought that this made the radio louder the noisier it got in the car but it never seems to get any louder for me. Same on the previous model. Is it some high threshold I never reach like 110 mph or something?

Am I misunderstanding what this feature is meant to do or how it is meant to be set up?

To be honest I can't say I noticed it working on the old 5000 radio that was in the Galaxy, but on the new OEM SatNav you most certainly can tell the difference! As you go faster (and therefore noisier) it gets louder - doesn't have to be much faster to get a noticeable increase!

I have tried the AVC setting on all 3 levels and it doesn't appear to do much. Apparently if you can set it, it's there (if you understand that).

I have a Blaupunkt radio that will get fitted one day, and that has a microphone that samples the noise level in the car and adjusts the sound to compensate. I've had it in two cars and never had to alter the volume. Now I'm thankful for the steering wheel controls.
